Camilo Zeballos came to Grace Medical Home searching for more than a job—he was looking for a place where medicine met mission. A recent graduate with dreams of becoming a physician, Camilo had already explored several medical assistant roles, but he longed for something deeper: an experience that would not only strengthen his clinical skills but also reflect his Christian faith and commitment to whole-person care.
The moment he walked through the doors at Grace, something shifted. “I remember telling my family it felt like God was jumping off the walls,” Camilo said. “There was this undeniable sense of peace and purpose. I canceled my other interviews immediately.” What he didn’t know at the time was that the building itself is infused with Scripture, literally written within its walls—affirming the sacred feeling he experienced that day.
Camilo began his journey at Grace as a volunteer. The environment was unlike anything he’d seen before. Providers took time not only to treat patients medically but also to understand their stories, their struggles, and their spiritual lives. Everyone—from front desk staff to physicians—embodied the mission to extend grace, dignity, and hope.
After graduating, Camilo returned to Grace as a full-time Medical Assistant staff member. That decision, he says, was one of the best he’s ever made. “Working here clarified everything for me,” he shared. “I’ve always wanted to practice medicine differently—to really see and care for the person behind the diagnosis. Grace didn’t just show me that it’s possible; it showed me it’s necessary.”
The impact has been mutual. Camilo has become a source of light and encouragement to patients, many of whom confide in him how Grace has changed their lives. “So many of our patients have told me that if it weren’t for Grace, they wouldn’t be here today,” he said. “Grace is where they found healing—but more than that, it’s where they began to believe that their life matters again.”
The experience has also deepened his personal mission. As the son of immigrants, Camilo knows what it means to face adversity and rise because someone else extended a hand. “Working at Grace has solidified in me the desire to continue helping this community,” he said. “Coming from an immigrant family that has faced our own struggles, I see how much work is still left to do to ensure all people—regardless of their background—have access to opportunity.”
As he prepares for the next step—medical school—Camilo knows he will carry Grace’s influence with him for the rest of his life. “When I was asked in my medical school interviews, ‘Why do you want to be a doctor?’ it was my experience here that gave me the answer,” he said. “The providers, my coworkers, and especially our patients—this place has shaped me in every way.”
To the donors who make Grace possible, Camilo offers his deepest thanks. “When I learned that Grace is 100% donation-based, I was blown away. The care we provide—labs, referrals, top-tier equipment—is only possible because of you. But more than that, you’re investing in the future of medicine. Your generosity has changed my life—and will ripple into every life I touch as a doctor.”
Camilo’s story is one of calling, confirmation, and transformation. At Grace Medical Home, he found not just a job, but a sacred place where his faith, passion, and purpose came together. His story is a testament to what happens when healthcare becomes an expression of love—and when generous hearts make that possible.
